A Love Letter to my Drug Addiction
we didn’t swallow a pill-
we swallowed joy, understanding, connection
forgiveness, empathy,
poisonous perfection.
we found ourselves in the reflective surface of chemicals,
caught glimpses of our naked souls in
an elusive mirror that didn’t lie.
for once,
we were light enough to float;
light enough to fly.
we did.
and when we were finished you settled
into a blissful slumber
with a newfound state of content
while i awoke with a new hunger,
unaware i would never
be at home on the ground
again
